General
Recording or amplifying an acoustic drum kit is quite something else and quite difficult! The average volume of drums is very high, compared to that of other instruments. Bleeding is also an issue - too much crosstalk makes for an inferior sound. In short, a set of quality drum microphones is of vital importance! Audix have got what you need! This professional Audix DP5a drum microphone set provides you with a number of high-quality microphones. These have been fully configured to accurately register a drum kit.
Audix DP5A: Dedicated and Accurate
The DP5A set consists of an i5 snare microphone, two D2 tom microphone, the D4 floor tom mic and the D6 kick microphone. All of these are perfect for close-miking in live situations, thanks to the optimal directional properties of the mics. The i5 is a snare microphone and thanks to the cardioid pickup pattern and adequate rejection of ambient noise, only the snare is registered. It can handle an SPL of (over) 140 dB, and thanks to the wide frequency response, it's also a durable all-round microphone.
D2, D4 and D6
The tonal character of toms and bass drums require separate microphones. Two dynamic D2s are perfect for suspended toms, the D4 is the floor tom microphone. The D2 and D4 have a hyper-cardioid pickup pattern and an adequate off-axis rejection. You'll definitely appreciate that the attack and warmth of the toms are optimally registered, without the tiring resonating middle frequencies that bleed through with inferior microphones. The B6 bass drum microphone starts registering from 30 Hz, so that the sub-lows of the kick come from the PA in an unadulterated fashion. It's easy to position, without being dependent on the precise sweet spot. In short, the DP5A is a professional microphone set that reproduces the sound of your drum kit, live as well as in the studio.
